The Way of a Ship | Laura Kranz

Proverbs 30 Art Series is a set of detailed surreal pencil drawings. Each one is inspired by a line or two of a weird section of the book of Proverbs—the only part of the Bible written by a guy named Agur.

The Way of a Ship is the 28th drawing—about two-thirds of the way through the series.

Proverbs 30:19 goes like this:

The way of an eagle in the air;
The way of a serpent upon a rock;
The way of a ship in the midst of the sea;
And the way of a man with a maiden.

These four lines are list of things that Agur claims are beyond his understanding. In the previous two drawings, I took on lines one and two. Now we’re on to the third line:

The way of a ship in the midst of the sea;

All of the drawings in this list of four use a similar sort of vertical slash, like you see below on the left side.

Drawing specs

Name: The Way of a Ship

Dimensions: Drawn on a hand-cut piece of 5″ x 7″ paper

Materials: Made with the stub of a hard pencil on sketch paper

Series: It’s the 28th drawing in the Proverbs Art 30 Series, which is a set of surreal drawings. I created it as part of the art archives in 2016.

In keeping with the surreal / abstract style of the series, The Way of a Ship uses some light free-form pencil strokes that I shaded in.

I make new art on a regular basis, and sometimes even give art pieces away.  You can find out about both of these things (plus other projects I work on) by joining my email list. When you do, you’ll get a note from me a few times each month.
