Hand-lettering 2 Thesselonians 3:3 (video)
But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.
—2 Thesselonians 3:3
About this drawing
About two years ago, I began the process of illustrating / writing one Bible verse out of each book in the Bible. It was a challenge for me to get better at hand-lettering.
Several drawings in, I learned that this type of drawing is not exactly my style … which made the entire project feel much more tedious.
Instead of giving up on it, I’ve evolved the style quite a bit throughout. I still haven’t exactly found the sweet spot. I even took an entire year break on the project.
But there are only 14 more drawings to go, so it’s time to buckle down and finish what I started.
I went with a looser, more free-flowing handwriting style in this image. I enjoyed using watered-down inks to create the textural background you see.
In the early drawings in the series, I used a much tighter, more detail-oriented style. The drawings look pretty cool, but it feels like swimming upstream for me to make them that way.
We’ll see which way I go on the next one; it will probably be a similar approach to the drawing above.
