Timing Is Everything (NEW SINGLE)

Exciting news: I just released a new single!

It’s called “Timing Is Everything.” You can stream or purchase it on Spotify, iTunes, Google Play, Amazon … or wherever you get your music. (If you’re a Spotify user, follow me!)

“Timing Is Everything” is going to be the first track on my album, Copenhagenism: a concept album exploring the conundrums of human decision making.  I’m about to cross the finish line on the project—I’ll be releasing the album in April.

In the meantime, you can learn about “Timing Is Everything” in the video below, and stream or purchase it from the platform of your choice.

About “Timing Is Everything”

We have a lifespan of around 70 or so years. Let’s face the reality of that. That is not a long time.

Everybody’s going to do something with their short lives (even if it’s just killing time until time kills you). What’s that thing going to be? For most, this is not an easy question to answer.

It makes sense to choose what to do based on what’s important to you.

On the other hand, you can just go with the flow and live by path of least resistance.

I don’t trust the flow. I’d rather make sure my life lines up with what I care about than just let it happen to me.

But here’s the catch: you can spend most of your life trying to figure out what’s important to you … and never really figure it out. And even if you do, you can change your mind about what’s important to you multiple times throughout your life. If you’re a person of strong convictions and you change your mind in a drastic way, it means a lot of your past efforts will have worked completely against you.

The point is this: you might die before ever really making sense of what you wanted your life to be all about.

And this just makes that whole decision making process around what you do with your life feel like kind of a joke.

I’m not solving this problem. I’m just making music about it. Here are some of the elements I toyed around with.

  • A ticking clock
  • A driving beat
  • Cold, impersonal sounds. Like the mechanically-articulated piano.
  • Distant vocals that almost make fun of the listener. They go so far as asking this rhetorical question: “You thought there was more?”
  • I even indulged myself with a really anticlimactic microwave ding at the end.
